The trick: half of ten times

5 × n is half of 10 × n: 5 × 8 = 80 ÷ 2 = 40. Answers always end in 5 or 0.

Patterns in the 5s

The last digits repeat a short cycle — 5, 0, 5, 0, 5, 0, 5, 0, 5, 0 — so every answer ends in one of 0, 5.

The 5 times table is the 2 times table plus the 3 times table, row by row: 5 × 6 = 2 × 6 + 3 × 6 = 12 + 18 = 30.

Each answer is 5 more than the one before, so if you know 5 × 6 = 30, then 5 × 7 is 30 + 5 = 35.
