The trick: repeat the digit, then add the digits

Up to 9 × 11, repeat the digit: 11 × 7 = 77. For two-digit numbers, write the digits apart and put their sum in the middle: 11 × 12 → 1 (1+2) 2 = 132.

Patterns in the 11s

The last digits from 11 × 1 to 11 × 10 run 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0: every digit from 0 to 9 appears exactly once, so no two answers in the first ten share an ending.

The 11 times table is the 10 times table plus the 1 times table, row by row: 11 × 6 = 10 × 6 + 1 × 6 = 60 + 6 = 66.

Each answer is 11 more than the one before, so if you know 11 × 6 = 66, then 11 × 7 is 66 + 11 = 77.
