The trick: double the 7s

14 × n is double 7 × n: 14 × 6 = 2 × 42 = 84. Or split: 10 × 6 + 4 × 6 = 60 + 24.

Patterns in the 14s

The last digits repeat a short cycle — 4, 8, 2, 6, 0, 4, 8, 2, 6, 0 — so every answer ends in one of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8.

The 14 times table is the 10 times table plus the 4 times table, row by row: 14 × 6 = 10 × 6 + 4 × 6 = 60 + 24 = 84.

Each answer is 14 more than the one before, so if you know 14 × 6 = 84, then 14 × 7 is 84 + 14 = 98.
