The trick: ten times plus three times
13 × n = 10 × n + 3 × n: 13 × 7 = 70 + 21 = 91. Watch for 91: it looks prime, but it's 7 × 13.
Patterns in the 13s
The last digits from 13 × 1 to 13 × 10 run 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0: every digit from 0 to 9 appears exactly once, so no two answers in the first ten share an ending.
The 13 times table is the 10 times table plus the 3 times table, row by row: 13 × 6 = 10 × 6 + 3 × 6 = 60 + 18 = 78.
Each answer is 13 more than the one before, so if you know 13 × 6 = 78, then 13 × 7 is 78 + 13 = 91.
