Mental math speed benchmarks
Short answer: these are real answer times from R3CK0N players, as of 2026-11-07. Each row combines at least 5 different players (up to 20), so no number describes any one person.
Seconds per problem, by operation
“Fastest 10%” is the pace only one run in ten beats; “median” is a typical run.
| Operation | Level | Fastest 10% | Median | Slowest 10% | Accuracy | Runs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Addition | veryeasy | 1.14 s | 1.65 s | 2.53 s | 100% | 99 |
| Addition | easy | 2.32 s | 3.56 s | 8.33 s | 97% | 80 |
| Addition | medium | 5.58 s | 10.48 s | 20.68 s | 97% | 59 |
| Division | easy | 1.41 s | 2.04 s | 4.15 s | 100% | 39 |
| Multiplication | easy | 1.43 s | 1.88 s | 4.7 s | 100% | 42 |
| Subtraction | easy | 2.05 s | 3.87 s | 7.56 s | 99% | 40 |

How these numbers are made
Every timed drill in R3CK0N records how long each answer took. For signed-in players, those runs sync to our server, and this page is rebuilt from them each time the site is deployed. Times are only counted for correct answers, answers that took over a minute are dropped, and any group with fewer than five different players is left out entirely.
Compare yourself
Run a drill at the same level and compare your seconds per problem with the median. Beating the “fastest 10%” column on easy multiplication is a sign the times tables are automatic; if you're nearer the slowest 10%, the times tables pages are the place to start.
